Portrait of Emmeline Lawrence (from a pastel), c1920s. Emmeline Pethick-Lawrence (née Pethick, 1867-1954) was a British women's rights activist, suffragist and pacifist. Her husband, Frederick Lawrence, added her surname to his in recognition of her separate identity. From "The Suffragette Movement. An intimate account of persons and ideals" by E Sylvia Pankhurst.
