Colossal sandstone statue of Akhenaten, Ancient Egyptian, Amarna period, c1350-1334 BC. Statue of the Pharaoh Akhenaten standing with arms folded and holding the flail and heka sceptres. The lack of genitalia is thought to be a reflection of the belief that the pharaoh was the primordial god, both a mother and father to the people. The statue was erected at Karnak at the temple courtyard build by Akhenaten, next to the temple of Amun-Ra. From the Egyptian Museum, Cairo.
