Gold bracteate, Viking, Migration period, c300-700. Found in Ulusunda, Uppland, Sweden. Worn on the chest suspended from the neck as a magical amulet, bracteates were modelled on the Roman medallion and were used as means of cementing political alliances. A horse-like creature, a figure, probably Odin, and apotropaic runes were usually depicted. From the Statens Historiska Museum, Stockholm.
